When one spouse experience a transition in faith, it’s common to see their research and study to occur completely independent of the believing spouse. Allan and Kattie discuss their experience of learning about troubling information about the church and how much of that process they have done together.

Wow you guys! I have caught up on all 5 episodes now. I feel like I am listening to my own story word for word. Everything you are saying is exactly what’s going on with my husband and I: thoughts, feelings, conversations. Our time frame is a little longer…but wow. I wish I had this 3 years ago. THANK YOU!! I will be introducing you to my husband and will reach out to you. I wish we lived closer- we’re in Dallas if you ever feel the need to come down for some good bbq. 😉
Shoot! I was in Dallas two weeks ago for work! (Not a normal destination for me)
Can’t wait to hear from your husband! Kattie feels the same about you!
Thanks for a great podcast, I love that you would open up and talk openly about everything going on. I think culturally, we have a very dysfunctional knee-jerk reaction to blame the person who has been troubled by the information rather than discussing the troubling information and why it’s troubling. That is not to blame Kattie for her reaction or feelings, it is so cultural. I applaud your efforts to learn about the information and process it. In my life, people dear to me have been reluctant to read the information I want to discuss because they are afraid it will make them lose their testimony. To me, Mormonism was founded on the idea of pursuing truth and letting the chips fall where they may. I hope we get to a point where we are mature enough to adopt this view of the Dalai Lama: “If science proves some belief of Buddhism wrong, then Buddhism will have to change. In my view, science and Buddhism share a search for the truth and for understanding reality. By learning from science about aspects of reality where its understanding may be more advanced, I believe that Buddhism enriches its own worldview.” Mormonism was founded and developed on a 19th Century view of the world. Some of those views do not make sense in the 21st century, I hope we can recognize that, move on and continue pursuing truth.
That quote from the Dalai Lama is BEAUTIFUL!
Allan and Kattie, Bill Reel here. My wife and I listened together to your part 5 and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The way you play off each other, the kind tone and respect towards each other and the quality of the work your putting out. Amazing and so needed. Great Job you two!!!!
I just wanted to drop a quick comment to say thank you!
I am trying to find a way to introduce my wife to your podcast. We are about two years into my own personal faith transition. While we do try to discuss some things, my wife has had some very emotional responses to what I had thought were some of the “lighter” topics. It makes it difficult to discuss any issues in depth.
Like you Kattie, we have four kids, two very young and at home all day. My wife has attempted to study some things, but is hesitant to delve into anything controversial, even if she had the time to do it.
Anyway, the point is. Thank you!
Just started bingeing your podcast. Thank you both for being so vulnerable and open about your journeys.
To be honest, my wife and I are so very different from the two of you, but your conversations and so raw, real, and provide me with hope and joy, so I’m going to keep listening.
I hope the best for you both.
